General

Does CopperTree share my Building data?

No, only users with correct permissions can access your building data. We never share this information with third parties.

Do I need to develop my own logic rules for FDD?

CopperTree authored rules are thoroughly tested and are available to you in our Community Library. Additionally, the Community Library holds over 3,000 pre-built rules made by other Kaizen users, which you can use as-is, or customize accordingly to your needs.

Does Kaizen provide savings estimates for Insights?

Yes! There are several savings metrics that can be applied to any Insight:

  • Potential Savings projects how much money could be saved in a year, given the current weeks' operation.
  • Avoidable Cost is a running total of how much that fault has cost to date.
  • Realized Savings are calculated after the issue has been fixed by comparing new operation with an established baseline of operation. Realized Savings require custom rules which can be included as part of our managed services offering.

Where does the data reside?

Currently, we host with industry-leading cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Several deployment options are also available to ensure compliance with your IT policies and procedures. Please contact [email protected] to learn more.

My building has very strict IT security requirements. Is there an on-premise version of Kaizen?

There is the potential to run a dedicated cloud instance or on-prem version of our solution. Please contact us at [email protected] and we'll be in touch to discuss the details.

I already have alarm-fatigue from my BAS. How can I ensure I won’t get alarm-fatigue from Kaizen as well?

There are several ways to manage an excessive number of Insights in your Kaizen Building:

  1. Loosen dead bands and thresholds defined in the rule to reduce number of Insights generated
  2. Temporarily disable rules on equipment to help focus on a few key systems at a time
  3. Logic Rules do not have to generate Insights. Calculated Trend Log outputs can be used in reports instead, instantly bringing the worst performing systems to your attention.
  4. Enhanced Prioritization means you can look at a single Insight in multiple ways. Kaizen allows us to prioritize Insights based on a number of metrics, such as Potential Savings, Energy Impact, Comfort Impact and Ventilation Impact. Use these metrics to sort and filter the Insights most important to you.

What if the out the box rules don’t apply to my equipment or systems? How can the results still be valid?

When our Building Application Engineers' implement your building, we hold several review sessions with you to explain the rules that are in place, and give you opportunities to provide us with feedback. Any of our standard rules can be modified so that they catch ground realties of building operation. Additionally, any Kaizen User with permissions can modify or create custom rules for analyzing your building.

I’m already too busy – how can building analytics be useful if I don’t have the time to learn new software?

Our Engineering Services team provides a range of managed services, designed to fit the needs of your organization. Weekly, monthly, or quarterly meetings with our Building Application Engineers gets you up to speed with everything happening in your building.

We do not have the latest control drawing or control sequence. We are not familiar to the BAS programming implemented in control system. How does Kaizen figure out the current operating sequence of operation?

CopperTree’s Building Application Engineers leverage the historical data in Kaizen’s Trend Log Viewer to deduce sequences of operation. Some examples of this include:

  • CO2 high limits on mixed air damper control
  • Supply air temperature resets
  • Enthalpy control for economizers
  • End-of-line pressure control for AHUs
Once the sequences of operation have been determined, our BAEs can look for unintended consequences of the current operation, and for opportunities to improve on the sequences in order to achieve energy savings and reduce wear and tear on equipment.

Can CopperTree’s Kaizen be integrated to non-BACnet buildings?

Using our Edge data acquisition technology, CopperTree offers the most options for connection to proprietary BAS protocols in the industry.

I do not have weather data trended in my building’s automation system, will I be limited by this?

Not at all! Kaizen provides weather trend logs (like humidity, temperature etc.) for a number of locations all across the globe.

Do I have to log in to Kaizen every day to check on my building and see how it’s doing?

With Kaizen’s Reporting and Subscriptions features you can receive the results of your analytics right in your email inbox without ever logging in to Kaizen

Will Kaizen write back and make changes to my building’s automation system?

Kaizen will not make changes to your BAS directly. It only receives your data and provides you with the insight necessary to make improvements and find savings in your building.
